Steiner
Ranches, located along the majestic and beautiful winding Colorado River near
Bastrop, Texas, is one of the true working cattle and horse ranches in Texas
today. With a steadfast emphasis in raising quality Brangus cattle and
Performance Quarter Horses over some 8,000 acres, Steiner Ranches has annually
increased their market segments which now span coast to coast and
internationally into Mexico and South America.
Established
by Texas cowboy legend T.C. "Buck" Steiner in the early 1930s, Steiner Ranches
has enjoyed a legendary and lengthy colorful reputation. As an early steward of
the land, Buck Steiner, now deceased, enhanced both it's beauty and grazing
productiveness through brush clearing and improved grasses, creating a unique
piece of Texas landscape. In fact, many movies and TV commercials have been
produced using Steiner Ranches as the awe inspiring backdrop.
Taking the reins of the operation in the late
1970s, was grandson Bobby and his
wife Joleen Steiner. Bobby, the 1973 PRCA World Champion Bull Rider and Joleen,
a 1970 and 1971 National Finals Rodeo Barrel Racer, understood challenges, competition
and welcomed the ranching opportunity.
The young innovative and determined couple quickly established the ranch as one
of the best and largest producers of both commercial and registered Brangus in
the USA. Bobby's eye for quality and performance genetic demands over the past
30 years has earned Steiner Ranches' Brangus Bulls the reputation as a powerful
source for proven profitability in the Beef business. Joleen's critical record
keeping and eye on the everyday business made the tandem hard to beat.
Today, Steiner Ranches has grown to market over 500 Brangus bulls annually to
commercial cowmen in two of the industry's top auctions held at the ranch.
"We know that our Brangus bulls are critical to the profit of our clients. That
is why we even created our own unique performance measurements we call RPM’s
(Reliable Progeny Measurements)," Bobby said. "Realistic actual performance
measurements cowmen understand along with EPD's provide us and our commercial
bull customers an edge that is needed in this competitive business
of Beef."
In addition to the cattle, the Performance Quarter Horse operation has grown to
feature some 50 brood mares along with the outstanding stallion, Zans Leo Lux.
"Good horses with strong cow sense are essential in our day to day operations,"
Bobby said. “Since we are a working cattle ranch, our horses must
have a good disposition and the willingness to help us get the job
done. We selected for these traits in all of the brood mares and
especially in our stud."
Annually, 15 to 25 of these high quality offspring are offered for sale through
private treaty and in the annual December auction.
As you can see, Steiner Ranch is certainly about productiveness. But, Bobby and
Joleen knew their responsibility early as third generation stewards of the land.
They kept to their heritage and created harmony for livestock, wildlife and
Texas beauty to be enjoyed for generations to come.
"We are no frills, just a good working ranch where the emphasis is always on the
quality of the results," Bobby said. "Now that's the best tradition I know." |
